The rain didn’t stop Christmas shoppers being out and about last Saturday in Leeds City Centre, nor did it stop UKIP being out in force.
The streets were full - giving our activists an excellent opportunity to get the message across that UKIP is the party of Brexit.
One young shopper said he was happy to see Ukip out campaigning, an opinion echoed by numerous people who stopped to chat. Brexit was a hot topic with the public. In the referendum Leeds voted 49.7% to leave and some of the people that we met on Saturday said that whilst they had originally voted remain, they were now in support of leaving the EU due to the way the EU is treating the UK.
Those that stopped to chat and complete membership forms said they were very unhappy with the way the Government are currently handling Brexit, one gentleman told us that he was politically on the left and was not happy that the leave vote was being thwarted.
There were, of course, a couple of hecklers – no action day would be fun without them.
We are back out in force in January holding street stalls in Hull, York, Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
